Last Friday we decided to primer the car with primer paint. we went to Pep Boys and bought around eight cans of black spray paint a couple cans of silver and a couple cans of clear coat. we got the car taped up and started to paint it. the days we were painting it, its been really windy outside ,so it took a couple days to finish. after the couple days we got the black done. we took the tape off and taped around the trim off the car. while painting the trim I decided to also paint the rims. the paint was complete and I went to the interior. before we painted the car I didn't mention the we painted the interior as well. we painted it black and red. I will post some pictures as soon as I take some.
After painting the car we went to audio express and bought speakers and a new deck. we bought a pair of three and a half inch speakers and a pair of six by nine inch speakers, along with a pioneer deck. we installed them and the music sounds ten times better then it did. though we did find some issues that are an easy fix but it costs money and its a hassle. first, the motor mount is broken and we have to change it out, but its very difficult. second, the front bushings on the sway bars are bad so those need changed out and that is also difficult, but it will get done.

progress and incidents
A couple weeks ago after we got the intake manifold and the carburetor put in we had a couple incident. we started the car up and it started, but there was a leak in the front of the intake manifold. while the car was running and the radiator cap was not on all the way on, pressure built up and shot the radiator cap off and the anti freeze out, it looked like an elephant pissing. luckily nobody was in the way of it. I guess we didn't seal the gasgets on good enough and the cap tight enough. so we had to take off everything and start over, we also went to Pep Boys to buy a new cap and anti freeze. after ordering the gasget again and it arriving we made sure to use more rtv to seal it better. we put everything back together and it took a couple more days then planned, but we got it done. we put the anti freeze in and put the cap on, made sure it was tight on there.
So after getting it all done Daniel ordered three gages for the water, oil, and the volts. they came in but we only put in the water gage in to see if the engine over heats or not. we didn't put the volt gage on yet, but we started to put the oil gage on on. we took the old oil gage off, but never put the new one on because we got side tracked into checking up on the intake manifold and carburetor. we said okay, I think it is ready to start up, still forgetting about the oil cap. my uncle, angel was standing in front of the car, he was having a bad day, but it only got worse. Daniel started up the car and oil shot out and hit angel right in the face. it was the funniest thing I have ever seen.

Proposal

My topic is about restoring my 1981 Pontiac Trans Am Firebird. It was given to me by my mother's fiancé Daniel. The car runs and all, but it just needs a lot of love and work done to it. In the future after the car is done, I am hoping that it will turn out swell. This project is important to me because this car is a classic and it gives me an option to learn more about old cars. Also it gives me an option to actually work on one and make it something to talk about. I already know what to do to the car so during me research on the internet i am going to have to find parts and their prices.
What i need to understand about this topic is the tuning of the car. For example I need to know how to tune the carburetor and I need to know the electrical. Another thing i have to research is prices of the parts and where and how to get a hold of them. Other then that i am pretty confident of what is going on with this project.
Some books that I need will be about tuning an Edelbrock carburetor manuel, a book all about firebirds and trans ams, and an oldsmobile book for the engine. I know i could go to any auto store like Pep-boys, Auto-zone, O'riely and any hot-rod shop in town to find what i need. Or i could even use google on the internet. Who I will probably interview is this guy named Bill. I found him on Craigslist and he restores Firebirds and Trans ams and other old cars. He gave me one of his business cards so he seems legit.

Intro
I made my blog a couple weeks ago. I was supposed to talk about the restoration of my 1981 Pontiac trans am, but I haven't got a chance to work on it or do anything to it. Since this is my first post I am just going to talk about my car and what I am thinking of doing to it.....eventually.
Well first off, you already know what kind of car I have so let me tell you what kind of engine it has. The engine is a 455 big block that came out of a 1972 Oldsmobile car. Right now I have a 600 cfm edelbrock carburetor. I am saving up my money to get a 750 cfm edelbrock because I need more gas going into the car. Then after I got the carburetor I am going to get an intake manifold which will give the car more horse power. After the engine is complete I am going to finish restoring the inside of the car as well. The seats and the flooring was all restored, but I still need a new dash board and gages. I will have to get a new center console peace because the old one is in rough shape. Finally, once the engine and the interior is complete, I will move on the paint job. I am thinking of just premiering the car black because a paint job is too expensive. though I am not saying that half the interior and the engine is expensive, but...... you know what I mean.
Got parts!!
Today I just picked up an intake manifold for the 455. I found one on Craigslist for a great price. I just need some gaskets then it'll be ready to install. I'll end up getting them tomorrow. On top of buying the intake manifold today, I looked on eBay from ordering a 750 cfm carburator about a week ago and it arrived on the same day.
Though, before i install the intake manifold I have to clean the block, where the manifold is layed on top. I need to buy some engine degreaser to clean up some of the grease. Other than only this, nothing big is new, so I'll keep you all update...next week.
